ABSTRACT: Early childhood education (ECE) plays a crucial role in fostering community engagement among young children, which is essential for their social development and sense of belonging. This study investigates how ECE programs contribute to community engagement in early childhood. The objectives are to (1) assess the level of community engagement in children attending ECE programs, (2) evaluate the impact of community-related activities in ECE settings, and (3) examine the differences in community engagement between children who attend ECE programs and those who do not. A survey design was chosen to collect quantitative data on community engagement and qualitative insights from teachers and parents. A purposive sample of 150 children from preschools in Imo State was selected. The case study focuses on preschools with strong community engagement initiatives. Findings indicated that children attending ECE programs showed higher levels of community engagement compared to those not in such programs. Community-related activities were highly effective. Recommendations include integrating community engagement activities into ECE curricula and supporting educators in fostering community involvement among young learners.
